| In 1992 DC Thomson decided to print the
Oor Wullie and Broons strips in colour as part of their ongoing modernisation
of the strips. It seems this upset some fans who complained to DC Thomson
and after a few months the strips reverted to black and white. DCT adjusted the colouring technique over the few months they appeared from heavily coloured to lightly coloured and all the way back to heavily coloured. You can see some of these changes in the examples below. (there are examples of The Broons in colour over on The Broons Page). |

The
Broons and Oor Wullie are famous for their limited range of memorable
exclamations. Back in the dusty past (and in Kelvinside to this day) it
was considered uncouth to swear or take the lord's name in vain. But then,
as now, people liked to have exclamations for their exasperations. I don't
want to state the obvious but in case you don't already know - the ones
used by our characters are basically corruptions of religious terms. |
| Jings | derived from Jesus |
| Crivvens | derived from Christ In Heaven |
| Help Ma Boab | derived from help me god or so help me god |
| Michty Me | derived from Mighty God or Almighty God or God Almighty |
Oor Wullie
was modelled on Ron Low. Ron was the son of DC Thomson's managing editor
RD Low who, along with the artist Dudley Watkins, was the creator of The
Broons and Oor Wullie characters. |
